The US in 1995 consumed 2994.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, equivalent to an around-the-clock average power consumption of 341.6 billion watts.

A typical large power plant produces about a billion watts, so this is equivalent to nearly 350 large power plants going night and day.

Of that electricity, nuclear plants generated 750 billion kilowatt-hours, some 25% of the total.
